This project will explore the effect of pharmacotherapy on patient outcomes in two areas: drug-related hospital admissions and drug-drug interactions. This pharmacoepidemiology research will use real word clinical data for the study of patient outcomes. The research on drug-related hospital admission will use the methodology developed by Thevelin et al, 2018. The research on drug-drug interactions will measure the occurrence of potential drug-drug interactions using Micromedex, Lexicomp and DrugAgency drug interaction softwares, as well as the occurrence of adverse drug events resulting from drug-drug interactions. Moreover, different drug interaction softwares will be compared with regard to the ability to detect relevant drug-drug interactions and their concordance on severity ratings. This project will provide greater insight into two important aspects of pharmacotherapy: drug-related hospital admissions and drug-drug interactions. Altogether, these findings will provide valuable information on the risks of pharmacotherapy and pave the way for ensuring better patient safety.
