Dean’s Bulletin – 1/2024

16/02/2024

Dear colleagues, dear students,

Jaroslav Roh

With the end of the exam period of the winter semester and the beginning of the summer one, let me once again inform you about the news from the faculty life and about the events that await the faculty soon. On Sunday, February 11, it was just half a year since the construction of our new campus of Charles University in Hradec Kralove began. While we have already received a subsidy from the Ministry of Education for the smaller, so-called Central Building, we are still financing the construction of the larger Faculty Building, which, together with the Albertov Campus in Prague and the BioPharma Hub project in Brno, is included in the Recovery and resilience plan (RRP), exclusively from our own resources. However, this should change soon, as the last condition for the release of RRP funds, which is the conclusion of the Contract for the construction of the Albertov Campus, will soon be fulfilled, and we will be able to apply for RRP funding for its construction.

On Thursday, March 7, at 10 a.m., a groundbreaking ceremony for our campus is scheduled for the area in front of the existing building on Zborovska Street, immediately adjacent to the construction site. In addition to H.M. the Rector and other prominent persons of academic and political life, the Prime Minister Prof. Petr Fiala has promised to attend. In addition, he will meet with our students for a short discussion after the end of the festive program at about 11:00 in the A101 auditorium. I would like to cordially invite everyone to attend.

At around the same time as the start of the summer semester, the faculty will also be launching a major NETPHARM project under the OPJAK call "Excellent research", the approval of which I have already reported in previous bulletins. I keep my fingers crossed for the whole research team to achieve top results in both basic and applied research.

At the end of January, the Faculty hosted the 14th Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Conference, where a total of 83 students or young academics presented their scientific results. I would like to thank once again all the participants for their excellent and inspiring presentations, the session chairs for the smooth running of the program, and the organizers led by Assoc. Petr Chocholouš for the traditionally excellent organization of the conference. I would especially like to congratulate Mgr. Adam Reguli for winning the "František Švec Prize for Analytical Chemistry" for his work entitled "Miniaturized sample preparation: electromembrane extraction and volumetric absorptive microsampling".

In the field of analytical chemistry, our 5th year pharmacy student Mykyta Starovoit also achieved an extraordinary success, taking the 2nd place in the national competition of student works in the field of analytical chemistry "For the Karel Štulík Prize". Congratulations to Mykyta and my thanks to him for his great representation of our faculty.

In conclusion, let me announce a few important events that await us. On the morning of Tuesday 19 March, madame Rector will visit our faculty as part of the traditional meeting with students and staff of individual faculties "Breakfast with the Rector". On Friday, March 22, I will look forward to meeting you at the 52nd Pharmaceutical Ball in the Petrof Gallery. And let's not forget that this year our faculty celebrates its 55th anniversary, so please mark the date of October 25, 2024, when we will commemorate this anniversary with an afternoon professional program at the faculty and an evening social program at the Petrof Gallery.

I wish you a successful start to the summer semester,

doc. PharmDr. Jaroslav Roh, Ph.D.
Dean of the faculty
