BIP ERASMUS+ Training School organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy in collaboration with experts from the I-CARE4OLD

19/01/2024

In the period Oct-Nov 2023 was organized in Prague, Czech Republic the Training School for postgraduate and pregraduate students entitled „Advances in European Research in Rational Geriatric Pharmacotherapy and Geriatric Deprescribing“, financed by the ERASMUS+ BIP program of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Charles University and supported professionally by invited experts from the I-CARE4OLD H2020 project, the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy (ESCP) and the University Educational Centre in Clinical Pharmacy of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Charles University.

Main aim of this Prague Training School was to provide participants (mostly early stage researchers) with up-to date knowledge and skills in methodologies of geriatric pharmacoepidemiological research, eg. appropriate designing and conducting deprescribing geriatric studies, modern methods of preparing and conducting e-based research surveys, and in specific aspects of designing, analyses and interpretations of AI models and AI pharmacoepidemiological results. The Prague Training School was attended by postgraduate students from 7 European Universities and 7 countries, namely from the Goethe Univerzity in Frankfurt, Germany, University of Zagreb in Croatia, Univerzity of Belgrade in Serbia, Comenius University in Slovakia, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences in Lithuania, Marmara University in Turkey and Charles University in the Czech Republic.

The whole professional ERAMUS+ Blended Intensive Program (BIP) consisted of 2 virtual events with participants before and after the physical event (on Oct 23 and Nov 30, 2023) and of physical training held during 1-week in Prague, the Czech Republic, at different representative places of the Charles University. From experts/speakers for the I-CARE4OLD project participated in the professional lectures, workshops and discussion mettings Assoc. Prof. Daniela Fialová, PharmD, Ph.D., Faculty of Pharmacy, Charles University (member of WP5 and 6 of the I-CARE4OLD project and main organizer of the TS), Prof. Emiel O. Hoogendijk, Vrije Universitet, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (epidemiologists and chair of the I-CARE4 OLD WP6 group), Dr. Maria Beatrice Zazzara, Universita Catollica del Sacro Cuore, Italy (pharmacoepidemiologist and collaborator on WP5 of the I-CARE4OLD project) and Dr. Mikko Nutinen, Nordic Research Group, Finland (AI expert and collaborator in I-CARE4OLD WP5 and WP7). For the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy (ESCP) contributed professionally to the TS program Prof Annemie Sommers, Ghent University and Ghent University Hospital, Belgium (professor in clinical pharmacy and Board member of the Special Interest Group on Deprescribing of the ESCP) and prof. Martin Henman, Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland (expert in pharmacoepidemiology and Chair of the Research Committee of the ESCP). Participants were very satisfied with excellent and innovative program of the TS and during the whole week they created co-working subgroups that started to collaborate on works on selected publications from some I-CARE4OLD project outputs, e.g. publications summarizing results of the systematic literature reviews on negative outcomes of sedative and anticholinergic medications in older nursing home residents (WP5) and summarizing analyses of predictive factors of no pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment of depression in older home care clients in 6 European countries (collaborative outputs of WP6). Contacts between participants and experts stay active also after the Prague TS.

By the Rectorate of the Charles University this ERASMUS+ BIP training program was evaluated as the most innovative and collaborative program of the 2023 year.
