Dean’s Bulletin – 5/2023

03/07/2023

Dear colleagues, dear students,

Jaroslav RohThe summer exam period is over, and we can finally look forward to the summer holiday months. I hope that most of you students had a successful exam period and will be able to use the summer months to regenerate before the next academic year. If everything didn't work out, there's no need to panic; there is still plenty of time to study during the summer and successfully complete your remaining study obligations in September.

With the last day of June, the period of three major faculty projects of the Operational Programme Research, Development and Education - EFSA-CDN, InoMed and STARSS - ended, which enabled our faculty to acquire state-of-the-art instrumentation, bring in a number of foreign postdocs, and increase the quality of research activities at our faculty. I would like to thank all the researchers and members of the administrative teams of the projects for several years of hard work.

Since my last bulletin, significant progress has been made in the preparation of the construction of our joint campus with the Faculty of Medicine in HK. The BAK-Syner association of companies was successful in the tender for the general contractor with a price slightly exceeding CZK 5 billion excluding VAT, and practically immediately after the conclusion of the tender, our team together with the technical supervisor of the construction embarked on working negotiations with the winning association. In parallel with these negotiations, the contract with the winning bidder had to be approved by the academic administration. The contract was first discussed and approved by the Academic Senates of our Faculty and the Faculty of Medicine in HK at their joint meeting on 14.6.2023. After a positive opinion of the Economic Commission, the contract was also approved by the Academic Senate of Charles University on 23.6.2023. In the following week, the approval of the contract was confirmed by the Board of Trustees of our University. I would like to thank the management of our university, headed by the Rector, for their great support in all intra- and extra-university negotiations and our faculty academic senates, our senators and senators in the Academic Senate of Charles University, and finally the entire Academic Senate of Charles University for giving the green light to the implementation of our project. Unless something unexpected occurs, we can look forward to the start of construction this summer!

I am very happy that our graduate PharmDr. Thuy Linh Nguyen, Ph.D. has added another great success to the prestigious Bolzano Prize by winning the second place in the Sanofi Prize for Pharmacy and was thus able to receive this award at the French Embassy in Prague from the hands of Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn, Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry. This achievement is all the more valuable because the competition this year was really tough, and more than one competitor boasted publications with double-digit impact factors. I congratulate her very much and wish her every success in her future career. Furthermore, I would like to congratulate and especially thank Assoc. Prof. Veronika Nováková from the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Analysis, who, after advancing to the 2nd round in the main international ERC competition, managed to succeed in the Czech "mutation" of ERC CZ and receive significant support for her project for two years! Finally, I would like to once again congratulate all the graduates who were awarded their Master's diplomas at the graduation ceremony in Karolinum on 29 June 2023.

I wish all students, staff, alumni, and other friends of our faculty a nice and peaceful summer!

All the best,

doc. PharmDr. Jaroslav Roh, Ph.D.
Dean of the Faculty
