Dean’s Bulletin – October 2022

31/10/2022

Dear colleagues, dear students,

Jaroslav Roh As expected, the first month of the winter semester was hectic, as it usually is with the start of a new academic year. I believe that especially the students managed to jump into the fast-paced rush of lectures, seminars and practical exercises, and already in the first month they laid a good basis for the seemingly very distant exam period.

Preparations for the construction of our new campus have reached the final stage, and we opened the tender for the construction contractor in early October. In the few weeks after the tender was opened, we have already received a number of enquiries from potential bidders for this contract and representatives from several companies visited the site of the planned construction. So all indications are that there will be interest in the contract for the construction of our campus.

During the month of October, the preparation of a large pharmaceutical research project directed to the Operational programme John Amos Comenius got into full swing. Our faculty has been entrusted with the management and coordination of the preparation of the project, the planned budget of which amounts to several hundred million crowns, and in addition to our sister Faculty of Medicine in HK, selected departments of the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague and two institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic - the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry are involved in the project. I would like to thank the entire preparatory team, which meets several times a week and intensively prepares all the documents, namely Prof. František Štaud for coordinating the initial preparations and then Prof. Petr Pávek, who was selected as the project manager and thus took control of its further preparation.

In the past months I have mentioned several times the partial achievements of doc. Veronika Nováková with her application for ERC Starting grant. After the conclusion of the evaluation, I regret to announce that her project was not supported, nonetheless I would like to thank her once again for all the time and energy she devoted to the preparation and wish her every success in her future projects.

In October, a very important event in the pharmaceutical field took place, namely the opening of the Clinical Pharmacist's Outpatient Clinic at the Na Homolce Hospital, whose professional consulting and advisory activities in the field of pharmacotherapy are covered by health insurance. This is undoubtedly a very important milestone in the development of Czech pharmacy and a significant recognition and strengthening of the professional competences of pharmacists in our healthcare system. Many thanks go to the representatives of the Czech Professional Society of Clinical Pharmacy and in particular to the head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the Hospital na Homolce, PharmDr. Milada Halačová, Ph.D., who have contributed the most to the concept of the clinical pharmacist's outpatient clinic and the promotion of its activities among the services covered by health insurance.

Finally, I would like to thank all the students who attended the meeting on October 12th on the possibilities of promoting our faculty and for their willingness to help us in this important area. I would also like to announce that the traditional Pharmacists' Ball organized by the Czech Pharmaceutical Students' Association is scheduled for March 17, 2023. I hope that you will take the time to meet us there.
