Credit System

Credits are imaginary points you earn for successfully completing each course. The more challenging the course, the more credits you will earn. The number of credits does not depend on the classification, so you will receive the same number of credits for an excellent or good classification.

The optimal course of study is determined by the recommended study plan so that you can obtain 60 credits in each section (year). The minimum number of credits for the total period of study varies according to the type of study:

  • Pharmacy students must earn a minimum of 300 credits.
  • Pharmaceutical Sciences students must earn a minimum of 120 credits.
  • You can find the requirements for each course at the beginning of the semester in the Student Information System (SIS) and study materials.

You must earn at least 45 credits to enroll in the 2nd section (year) of study. For enrollment in the other sections of the study, you can get a maximum of 10 credits less than the normal number (see table below).

At the same time, enrolment in the next study section based on obtaining less than the normal number of credits is not allowed twice in two consecutive years. Therefore, if you achieve less than 60 credits in the 1st year of study, you must achieve at least 120 credits after 2 years of study (110 is not enough)!

Unless you pass one exam that has no continuation in the 2nd Year (e.g., Physical Chemistry), you will probably take fewer than the "normal number" of 60 credits, but you will reach the minimum threshold of 45 credits. Thus, you can take all the courses from the 2nd Year, plus you must pass the course that you failed in the 1st year (if you have 55 credits after the 1st Year, for example, you must have 120 credits after the 2nd Year). This is because it is not possible to have less than the "normal" number of credits in 2 consecutive years.

If you do not pass multiple exams (e.g., Cell Biology and Microbiology) that are related to courses from the 2nd year (Human Morphology and Physiology, Immunology, General Biochemistry, Pathological Physiology for Pharmacists, Pathobiochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Practical Exercises in Microbiology), you may meet the 45 credit limit for advancement to the 2nd year, but you will not be able to enroll in some of the follow-up courses. Because of this, you would not achieve a sufficient number of credits to progress to the next year, and you need to apply for an Individual Study Plan, ISP (see below).

Suppose you do not pass the exams of several courses with more credits and do not reach at least the minimum threshold of 45 credits. In that case, you cannot continue your studies (if you want to start again, you must submit a new application on time)!
