Education Overview
The Department of Pharmaceutical Technology provides education within the master’s study program in Pharmacy and the follow-up master’s study program in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Academic staff contribute to the teaching of theoretical and practical courses focused on dosage forms and their physical principles, biopharmaceutics, and the preparation of medicinal products on both pharmacy (compounding) and industrial scales. In addition, the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology provides courses focused on medical devices and cosmetic products.
Study program Pharmacy: The compulsory course Physical Principles of Dosage Forms (3rd study segment) introduces students to the physical principles applied in the formulation and stabilization of dosage forms. This course is followed by the compulsory courses Pharmaceutical Technology I (3rd study segment) and Pharmaceutical Technology II (4th study segment), which are among the key subjects of pharmaceutical studies. The department also provides instruction in elective courses (4th study segment) belonging to the specialization in Pharmaceutical Technology, such as Selected Methods of Pharmaceutical Technology, Development of Pharmaceutical Products (in cooperation with Zentiva Group, a.s.), and Industrial Production of Pharmaceutical Preparations (in cooperation with Teva Czech Industries s.r.o.). The department also offers the course Extemporaneous Preparation in Hospital Pharmacy (4th study segment) that is part of the specialization in Hospital Pharmacy. Furthermore, the department provides instruction in the compulsory course Medical Devices (4th study segment), the elective course Technology of Cosmetics (4th study segment), and, in cooperation with the Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, participates in teaching the compulsory course The Pharmacist in Healthcare (1st study segment).
Study program Pharmaceutical Sciences: The compulsory course Physical Principles of Dosage Forms (1st study segment) introduces students to the physical principles applied in the formulation and stabilization of dosage forms. Research Overview
The Department of Pharmaceutical Technology staff engage in scientific activities that are aligned with the objectives of the research groups to which they belong. Research at the department focuses on conventional and modern dosage forms and drug delivery systems, including their structural, physicochemical, and biopharmaceutical properties. The research is conducted within three research groups:
- Dosage Forms & Drug Delivery Systems Research Group
- Skin Barrier Research Group
- Group of Clinical and Molecular Pharmacotherapy
In the mentioned areas, the department also guarantees diploma and rigorous theses and the doctoral study program (Pharmaceutical Technology).
