Department of Analytical Chemistry guarantees education in the subject of Analytical chemistry in both winter and summer semesters of the second study section of the study programme Pharmacy. The study of this subject is finished by examination. The aim of the subject is to provide the students with firm and sufficiently wide theoretical and methodological fundamentals for pursuing (in a rational way) chemical and instrumental analysis of inorganic and organic substances including drugs. The teaching is focused on the explanation of theoretical aspects of chemical and instrumental methods and putting the accent on problem-solving tuition. In practical training individual approach of students to solving analytical problems is required.

Research activity of the Department of Analytical Chemistry is focused on the development, optimization and validation of analytical methods for selective detection, quantitation, and monitoring of low concentration levels of biologically important compounds using mostly chromatographic, electrophoretic and flow techniques. The cited methods are combined with modern sample pretreatment techniques.
