On February 3 and 4, 2026, the 16th Postgraduate Conference took place at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Charles University, in Hradec Králové. Both days of the conference began with a joint section. On Tuesday, Prof. Tomáš Šimůnek and Doc. Jaroslav Roh gave a plenary lecture entitled "The long journey to topobexin and to understanding the mechanisms of anthracycline cardiotoxicity and pharmacological cardioprotection." This was followed on Wednesday by a plenary lecture by Prof. Petr Pávek entitled "The Journey of the Compound MI-883: Lessons Learned at the Faculty of Pharmacy." Both presentations gave an in-depth look at the challenging, long-term journey of research and development of a potential drug, based on close and long-term collaboration among several research teams.

The NETPHARM project, which supported this PGS conference, pursues the same goals.

The program of the postgraduate conference was divided into five thematic sections: Bioorganic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Clinical and Social Pharmacy; Biochemistry, Pharmacology, and Toxicology; Pharmaceutical Analysis and Bioanalytical Methods; and Pharmaceutical Technology. Postgraduate students from the faculty gave a total of 64 excellent lectures, both in terms of the topics and the quality of the presentations and subsequent discussions.

For the fourth year running, the František Švec Award for Analytical Chemistry was presented at the conference, recognizing the best student presentations in the section Pharmaceutical Analysis and Bioanalytical Methods. This year, the expert committee consisting of Prof. František Švec, Doc. Hana Sklenářová, and Doc. Radim Kučera awarded the following works:

  • 3rd prize - M.Sc. Pakanan Laolertworakul – Optimisation of Dried Blood Spots Sample Preparation for Determination of Inflammatory Biomarkers Using HPLC

After the end of the professional program and the ceremonial announcement of the winners, a traditional informal meeting of students and supervisors took place in the pleasant surroundings of the Na Mostě Gallery.

We believe that the conference was beneficial for all participants, providing inspiration and motivation for further scientific work, while also setting a high standard for future years.
