Prague, 23 January 2025 - Yesterday's release of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 by Subject confirmed that Charles University is still one of the world's leading universities. In the ten disciplines in which it was ranked, Charles University defended its top position in the Czech Republic, while in economics and humanities it is among the top two hundred in the world. In economics, psychology and social sciences, it improved on the previous edition.
The prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject, which is part of the Times Higher Education family of rankings, assesses the activities of universities in a total of 11 disciplines or broad subject groups. The ranking is based on eighteen indicators divided into five pillars: education and teaching, research environment, research quality, internationalisation and cooperation with industry, and technology transfer. The weights of each pillar vary across disciplines, reflecting the different degrees of usefulness of bibliometric indicators (such as citations or publications in leading journals) for assessing research quality.
Charles University is ranked among the best universities in the world in ten disciplines. This year we hold good rankings in, for example, humanities and arts (151-175th) and economics (176-200th). In the top third of the best schools in the world in terms of overall rankings, Charles University is ranked in medical and health sciences, life sciences and natural sciences. In computer science and education, Charles University is among the top five hundred higher education institutions.
"I very much appreciate the fact that Charles University has long held a good position among the ranked universities, despite the ever-increasing global competition. Thanks for this go to all those who contribute to internationally competitive science, contribute to the implementation of quality education at our University or otherwise support the development of our alma mater," adds the Rector of Charles University Milena Králíčková.
Latest results show that Charles University has improved its position year-on-year in three fields (economics, psychology and social sciences). It also consolidated its position as the top-ranked university in the Czech Republic thanks to the best ranking in 10 areas (humanities and arts, economics, psychology, social sciences, medical and health sciences, life sciences, natural sciences, pedagogy and education, law and informatics).
