Dean’s Bulletin – 5/2024

15/11/2024

Dear colleagues, dear students,

Jaroslav Roh

The first half of the winter semester is almost over and, as usual, it has brought a number of interesting events.

The construction of our new campus is on schedule. At the moment, the rough construction is being completed, most of the central building and the western part of the faculties' building have already had their windows installed, and most of the work is thus slowly but surely progressing inside the buildings. In the meantime, the faculties have prepared the tenders for the interior furnishing of the campus and the first "package" will be announced this week, namely for the laboratory equipment of the new premises. Behind the scenes, of course, a series of challenging negotiations are taking place on a daily basis, with the general contractor, the architectural supervisor, and many other entities, about the details of each step of the construction and equipping of the campus. I would like to thank the entire Mephared2 interfaculty team, which is responsible for the smooth running of all processes related to the construction, for their continuous work and for defending the interests of the University and its two faculties in Hradec Králové. Time really flies and practically "only" a year and a half is missing to complete the entire project, which will bring both faculties over 70 thousand m2 of new space for the further development of teaching and research activities in pharmaceutical and medical disciplines.

At the beginning of October, we received the accreditation of the bachelor's degree program in Medicinal Plants and Nutraceuticals, valid for 10 years. After more than 20 years, a new undergraduate study program taught in the Czech language has been added to the existing programs of Pharmacy, Laboratory Diagnostics in Healthcare and Bioanalytical Laboratory Diagnostics in Healthcare. In October, the Academic Senate of the Faculty approved the admission requirements and there is no obstacle to admitting the first students to this program and to starting teaching from the academic year 2025/2026.

I am pleased to be able to boast about the achievements of our students, graduates, and staff in almost every bulletin, and this issue will be no different. On Tuesday, November 12, our PhD graduate in Pharmaceutical Technology, Mgr. Martin Juhaščik, Ph.D., received an extraordinary award from the Rector of Charles University for outstanding results of scientific activities obtained during his studies. Congratulations to Martin and thank you for your excellent representation of our faculty!

You may have noticed that in October the inauguration of the Rector of the University of Hradec Králové, doc. RNDr. Jan Kříž, Ph.D., and three new deans of its faculties took place, which carried a significant footprint of our faculty. Our graduate RNDr. Alena Myslivcová Fučíková, Ph.D., became the Dean of the Faculty of Science of the University of Hradec Králové. I would like to congratulate her and wish her much success in leading the faculty. I look forward to future cooperation.

On Friday, 25 October, the 55th anniversary of our faculty was celebrated. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the organizers for the smooth running of the celebrations and all the sponsors for their support of the event. Of course, thanks also go to all the guests who attended the afternoon program or the social evening that followed. The lectures of our graduates, now prominent representatives of pharmaceutical education in the USA and Germany, on the specifics of pharmacist education in their countries were very well received. I am delighted that both colleagues have agreed to publish their presentations and it is my pleasure to share the lecture by Prof. Markéta Marvanova, Dean of the School of Pharmacy, Pacific University in Oregon, and the lecture by Prof. Jarmila Jedelská, who is based at the University of Jena and the University of Marburg.

Finally, I would like to invite you to two cultural events. The first one is the Benefit Concert of the students of LFHK and FaF, which will take place on Tuesday 26 November at 19:00 in the Petrof Gallery, the proceeds of which will be donated to support the care of little Leontine. The concert will traditionally feature performances by students from our own and our sister Faculty of Medicine in HK, and those of you who have been to any of the previous years will know that we have a lot to look forward to. The second event is the Christmas Concert of our faculty which will be held on Tuesday 10 December at 7pm in the City Music Hall. You are cordially invited to both events.
