Charles University is again among the top 100 universities ranked in the prestigious QS World University Rankings: Europe 2025, according to the newly released ranking of European universities. In the competition of almost seven hundred schools, it was ranked 79th this year, thus once again being the best among Czech universities and at the same time defending its first place in the region.
QS World University Rankings: Europe, which was published for the first time last year, compares the performance of European universities in a total of twelve criteria. These relate in particular to the conditions and quality of teaching and research, the employment of graduates, internationalisation or sustainability. The published results cover 685 schools from a total of 42 European countries, including 17 from the Czech Republic. Among them, Charles University, as last year, was clearly the best performer.
"The excellent result of 79th overall position was also due to the fact that in seven out of twelve criteria, Charles University is among the top 100 schools in Europe. For example, it is significant for applicants that these areas include, among others, employment and employability of graduates," said the Rector of Charles University Milena Králíčková about the excellent ranking.

Thanks to this year's improvement, Charles University has now surpassed, for example, the University of Bern in Switzerland or Hamburg in Germany, and this year also left behind the Italian University of Padua. Compared to last year, Charles University ranked significantly better in two criteria. Specifically, in the area of international research cooperation (35th place), where it jumped by 17 places compared to last year, and in the area of students admitted under international mobility (40th place).
In this ranking, the universities are divided into Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern European groups, with Charles University ranked among the Eastern European countries. In this comparison, the UK has defended its top position again this year.
Within the 4EU+ partnership of eight leading European universities, Charles University performs better than Paris-Panthéon-Assas University or the University of Warsaw.
Among other Czech universities, Masaryk University is 143rd, Czech Technical University in Prague 177th and Palacký University in Olomouc 214th.
