13. Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Pharmacy

06/02/2023

The 13th Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Scientific Conference was held at the Faculty of Pharmacy on February 1 and 2, 2023, returning from the online format back to the lecture halls after two pandemic years. The conference traditionally opened with a joint section in which Prof. Kateřina Vávrová and Prof. Petr Zimčík described in an awe-inspiring way two exciting stories that preceded their publications in prestigious journals. Both lectures were captivating and highlighted that even repeated manuscript rejection or several years of experimental efforts should not discourage young scientists from trying to publish in prestigious journals.

The conference was traditionally divided into six sessions:

  • Bioorganic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry;
  • Clinical and Social Pharmacy;
  • Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Toxicology;
  • Pharmaceutical Analysis;
  • Pharmacognosy and Nutraceuticals;
  • Pharmaceutical Technology.

Although this year's conference was attended almost exclusively by graduate students and young scientists from our faculty, the number of presenters reached an impressive 116. The ever-increasing quality of presentations and subsequent discussions should be appreciated.

A novelty of this year's conference was the "František Švec Prize in Analytical Chemistry," awarding the three best student presentations in the Pharmaceutical Analysis section. The committee composed of prof. Ing. František Švec, Dr.Sc., Assoc. Prof. PharmDr. Hana Sklenářová, Ph.D. and Assoc. Prof. PharmDr. Radim Kučera, Ph.D. selected the following presentations as the best:

  • 1st place: Mgr. Ondřej Horáček - COMPREHENSIVE CHIRAL GC-MS/MS AND LC-MS/MS METHOD FOR IDENTIFICATION AND DETERMINATION OF N-ACYL HOMOSERINE LACTONES
  • 2nd place: Mgr. Siddharth Jadeja - THE USE OF MOBILE PHASE WITH WEAK ACID AND AT LOW CONCENTRATION IN LC-MS PROTEOMIC ANALYSIS LEADS TO ENHANCED ELECTROSPRAY IONIZATION AND IMPROVED SENSITIVITY
  • 3rd place: Mgr. Tat'ána Gazárková - UNRAVELLING THE LIPIDOME OF ATHEROSCLEROTIC PLAQUES USING MATRIX-ASSISTED LASER DESORPTION IONISATION - TRAVELLING WAVE ION MOBILITY MASS SPECTROMETRY

After the end of the conference and the announcement of the winners, an informal meeting of students and supervisors took place in the pleasant premises of the Gallery Na Mostě.

We believe that the conference was a source of inspiration and motivation for further scientific work for all participants.

This conference was supported by the project Efficiency and safety improvement of current drugs and nutraceuticals: advanced methods – new challenge (EFSA-CDN) (Reg. No. CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/16_019/0000841) co-funded by the European Union.
