Dear colleagues, dear students,
I have to start this bulletin with an update about the current state of preparation for the construction of our university campus here in Hradec Králové. The evaluation of the bids for the general contractor of the construction is in the process of being concluded, and the winning bidder will soon be known. Intensive negotiations are currently underway between the university and our faculties management and government officials to secure financing for the construction.
In the last bulletin, I congratulated our graduate Mgr. Filip Kostelanský, Ph.D., who received the Mayor of Hradec Kralove Award for his scientific work. Just three weeks later, Filip was also awarded an extraordinary prize of the Rector of Charles University for his outstanding results in scientific activities. Another very prestigious prize of Charles University, the Bolzano Prize, awarded to students for exceptional research work with outstanding creative content, was received from the hands of the Rector by our graduate PharmDr. Thuy Linh Nguyen, Ph.D. for her dissertation dealing with the research on new compounds with potential anthelmintic effects. I congratulate both awardees and wish them much success in their future careers.
Our undergraduate students also achieved an outstanding success at the International Student Scientific Conference, which took place at the beginning of May at the Zentiva headquarters in Prague. In competition with students from the Brno and Bratislava Faculties of Pharmacy and the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice, our students won in three of the four conference sections. This success is further enhanced by the fact that seven students from our Faculty out of eight nominees were on the podium in their respective sections. Congratulations to all of them and best wishes for success in further studies and research!
I would also like to thank all three proposers of the university PRIMUS projects, which aim to support top young researchers in establishing and developing new research groups. Dr. Petr Matouš submitted his project proposals in the "Science" category and Dr. Alex Carazo and Dr. Eugen Hruška in the "Medicine" category. Let's keep our fingers crossed that their projects will be accepted for funding.
I would like to cordially invite you to the exhibition of photographs of Assoc. Prof. Kateřina Macáková entitled "Plants through the microscope", which was organized by the Department of Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Botany at the Garden of Medicinal Plants to honour the memory of Kateřina Macáková. The exhibition will be on display until the end of June.
Finally, I would like to wish all students a successful completion of all their credits and then a most successful summer exam period. And to the final year students, good luck with the final state exams and successful defence of your bachelor or master thesis!
