Dear colleagues, dear students,
I would like to address you once again through this, the tenth Dean's Bulletin, and I will start with congratulations to our successful doctoral students. On 30 March, our graduate Mgr. Filip Kostelanský, Ph.D. received the prestigious Mayor's Award for Student Creative Work for his research on the stabilization of short DNA duplexes, which resulted in a publication in the prestigious journal Nucleic Acids Research, and also in the filing of two patent applications. I would also like to congratulate Mgr. Eliška Mašková (née Voříšková) from the Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, who has been awarded the prestigious Fulbright-Masaryk Scholarship, which will allow her to spend ten months at Duke University in North Carolina. Finally, I would like to congratulate and thank all the PhD students who successfully applied for the Charles University Grant Agency projects. This year we received 19 new grants for our faculty, which represents an amazing 41% success rate.
I would also like to thank all the participants of our undergraduate Student Research Conference. The standard of presentations and scientific discussions was excellent, and the expert committees had a very difficult task indeed in selecting the best presenters in each session. I would like to congratulate them once again and wish them every success in the international round of the conference! I would like to thank the Czech Pharmacy Students Association for the excellent organization of the conference, as well as for the organization of the Pharmaceutical Ball and the co-organization of the Benefit Concert of the Faculty of Medicine in HK and the Faculty of Pharmacy in HK. These were really great events. And next week, on Wednesday, April 19, we will have again the Bioanalytics and Pharmacy Fair at the Faculty of Pharmacy, to which I cordially invite you. Just one day later, on Thursday, April 20, an alternative date for the Zentiva Day is planned. Hopefully, there will be no more complications, and in addition to the news from research and development at Zentiva, we will be able to listen to an interesting lecture by Ing. Dana Drábová, Ph.D.
The beginning of April is traditionally associated with the deadline for submitting project proposals to the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic (GAČR). I am very pleased that this year we are submitting more than 30 project proposals on behalf of the faculty, which is a truly impressive number, and I thank all the proposers very much. My fingers are crossed that as many projects as possible will be accepted for funding!
In the last bulletin I indicated that March was likely to be a very significant month in the preparation of the construction of our campus, and that prediction has come true. The deadline for submitting bids for the construction contractor has ended, and the bids are currently being evaluated, along with intensive negotiations between our faculty and university representatives and the relevant ministries and government officials on the next steps leading to the start of construction.
