International Workshop Recent Progress in Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry

28/06/2022

On June 23rd and 24th, 2022, an International Workshop: Recent Progress in Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry took place at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Charles University, as part of the project: Efficiency and safety improvement of current drugs and nutraceuticals: advanced methods - new challenges (EFSA – CDN). The workshop took place in the Botanical Garden of medicinal plants and was organized by prof. Lucie Cahlíková (Faculty of Pharmacy, Charles University) together with prof. Karel Šmejkal from Masaryk University in Brno and prof. Petr Solich, the main guarantor of the EFSA-CDN project. We would like to express gratitude to the entire staff of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Botany for the organization.

Within the scientific program, 4 plenary lectures, 7 invited lectures and 14 short presentations were given. In addition, 17 posters were presented. All invited lecturers are important experts in the field of pharmacognosy and chemistry of natural compounds. It is worth mentioning, that the conference was participated by two of the previous presidents of the Phytochemical Society of Europe, prof. Franz Bucar from the University of Graz and prof. Satyajit Sarker from the University of Livepool. The accompanying program also included a practical demonstration of HPTLC analyzes of various types of plant secondary metabolites and the use of 3D printing of a stand for vials with a structure of narciclasine, designed by Dr. Jaroslav Jenčo.

The workshop was mainly an opportunity for Ph.D. students and young scientists to meet with recognized experts in the field of natural substances and allowed to establish new collaborations. The whole event was a success, and all participants highlighted the level of the professional program, where all lectures were accompanied by a rich discussion, as well as the beautiful environment of the garden and material and technical background of the conference.

We look forward to further possible meetings at the Botanical Garden of Medicinal Plants!
