Dean’s Bulletin – May 2022

02/06/2022

Dear colleagues, dear students,

Jaroslav RohThe summer semester classes are over and this week the summer exam period has started. I would like to take this opportunity to wish our students success in their upcoming tests and exams. In case of partial failure, do not throw in the towel, and prepare for the next attempt. Of course, a little luck will be useful, but that usually comes with a responsible preparation for the exam.

Regarding the new campus construction, we have successfully finalized and submitted the tender documentation to the contractor, and the draft contract for the work to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Academic Senates of our Faculty, and the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové. A crucial point of bringing the construction of our campus closer to its realization was reached on 18 May when the Czech government, after months of intense negotiations between all parties involved, decided to allocate 1.8 billion CZK from the state budget to cover the taxes of construction projects, which includes the MEPHARED 2 project. Our government is to be thanked for this; given the current international situation and the state of public finances, it was certainly not an easy decision.

Two months ago, I mentioned the first ever submission of an application for an ERC Starting Grant by Assoc. Prof. Veronika Nováková. Now, I am very happy to add that the project has successfully passed the first round of evaluation. Although it is still waiting for the second round, namely the interview and the defense of the project by Veronika in front of the international evaluation committee, the very advancement to the second round of this most prestigious grant competition in Europe is a huge success. I believe that our successful participants of the National Student Scientific Conference (NSVK) will reach a similar goal in their future careers. They deserve my great thanks for their excellent representation and, of course, my congratulations for their outstanding achievements in the individual sections. Also Assoc. Prof. Veronika Nováková was among the successful representatives of our Faculty at the NSVK a few years ago.

Finally, I would like to thank again the representatives of the Czech Pharmacy Students Association for organizing this year's 50th anniversary ball of our Faculty. All the participants and invited guests, with whom I had the opportunity to talk, highly praised the course of the ball and appreciated its excellent organization. Furthermore, I would like to congratulate Šimon Koblížek for the great representation of our Faculty and winning the title of the Czech Champion in aquathlon. Šimon has shown us all that with a strong will, self-discipline, and determination, it is possible to combine the demanding studies at our Faculty with other activities, even at the top level.

And because even in the exam period it is good to relax, I would like to invite you to the football match of the final year students against teachers, as well as the so called “Last Lecture”, which will take place on Tuesday, June 14, at 2 pm on the playground of Mandysova Elementary School and at 6 pm in the AC Club, respectively. I am very happy that this traditional informal farewell to the final year students or fresh graduates will finally take place this year and will traditionally be accompanied by cheerful lectures of teachers of the Faculty.
