Dean’s Bulletin – March 2022

18/03/2022

Dear colleagues, dear students,

doc. PharmDr. Jaroslav Roh, Ph.D. This week we were finally able to take off our face masks and breathe fresh air again. Unfortunately, however, there is no reason to rejoice. For three weeks now Ukraine has been heroically resisting attacks by the troops of the Russian Federation, and every day we hear about war crimes and casualties. Our faculty is not remaining idle and in the very first days of the attack offered material and psychological assistance to its Ukrainian students. We are preparing conditions for the admission of pharmacy students from Ukrainian faculties and universities. In cooperation with the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies of the Charles University, we are providing intensive Czech language courses for these students and preparing the conditions for their admission so that from the new academic year they will be able to continue their studies at our faculty. At the same time, we are ready to accept doctoral students.

I would like to thank all of you who have contributed individually in any way to help mitigate the impact of the war on Ukrainian citizens.

We continue in the preparations for the construction of our new campus. Our faculty has been visited by several members of the Parliament of the Czech Republic from the Hradec Králové region to learn about the progress of the preparations and, of course, about the problems we are facing. At the Faculty of Medicine in HK, we then presented in detail the progress of the work to the new management of the Charles University. Despite all the obstacles, we received the building permit on Monday, and we are again a little closer to implementation.

I would like to thank doc. Veronika Nováková from the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Analysis, who, although currently on parental leave, prepared, defended, and subsequently submitted an ERC project, specifically an ERC Starting grant. I would also like to thank all thirty-four PhD students who submitted the GAUK project. A big congratulations to the twelve successful applicants!

Next week we will have the traditional Zentiva Day event, which will again be accompanied by a lecture by a distinguished expert. The traditionally well-attended and sought-after Bioanalytics and Pharmacy Job Fair and finally the Student Scientific Conference are coming up. I look forward to seeing you at all these events!
