Dean’s Bulletin – June 2022

01/07/2022

Dear colleagues, dear students,

J. RohThe summer exam period is over and the whole summer semester has come to an end. I would like to congratulate all students on passing their exams successfully, and I wish you all a nice summer holiday. Congratulations once again to 140 graduates who were awarded their Master´s degrees at the graduation ceremony in Carolinum on 28 June 2022. I am delighted that 5 Greek students from our faculty in Heraklion, Crete, were among the graduates.

If something did not work as you expected, please devote part of your holidays to studying, preparing for the remaining exams, or concluding your diploma thesis, so that you can successfully finish all the duties in September.

Preparations for the construction of our new campus continued unabated during June. The day after the successful selection of the Technical Supervisor of the Construction, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports issued the much-awaited call for applications for funding from the National Recovery Plan, Component 3.2, Part 3.2.4 Investments in the Development of Selected Key Academic Facilities, which includes the construction of our campus. We are currently analyzing the conditions of this call and preparing a possible scenario for the implementation of the construction of the campus to meet all the requirements of the published call, including the final implementation date of 30 June 2026.

Concerning scientific activities, I must mention the great success of Dr. Alžběta Štefela, who after years of second and third places brought the Sanofi Prize for Pharmacy back to our faculty! Congratulations on this wonderful recognition of her research, and I wish her great success in her future scientific work. I would also like to thank all 11 proposers and co-proposers of the submitted Czech Health Research Council projects, this is again a record number of applications!

Big thanks also to Prof. Ing. Lucie Cahlíková, Ph.D. and colleagues from Grants & Development Office headed by Ing. Martin Hubáček for organizing the Pharmacognosy Conference at the Garden of Medicinal Plants, which caused a literal flood of thank-you emails in my inbox. Let me quote from the letter of the President of the European Phytochemical Society Franz Bucar: "...big thank you for the excellent workshop you organized... I´ve rarely seen a medicinal plants garden which was in better shape, and especially the idea of producing your own medicinal plants for student courses, and having the respective fields, equipment and space for drying/storage to do so, is something I would also like to see in Graz..." The Head of the Garden of Medicinal Plants Ing. Anežka Chlebková could not have wished a bigger compliment, and I appreciate all her care of our garden.

In conclusion, let me wish you a nice and, if possible, peaceful summer and a pleasant holiday.
