The STARSS team (Specialized Team for Advanced Research on Separation Science) continued the well-established tradition and organized the 6th and final STARSS Conference on Separation Science on October 17 – 19, 2022, in Hradec Králové.
The opening address was given by Faculty Dean Assoc. Prof Jaroslav Roh, Professor František Švec, Professor Petr Solich, and Professor Lucie Nováková. They welcomed all participants and summarized the project's achievements over six years of its realization.
The 3-day long conference in a hybrid format offered 27 lectures and 4 practical workshops for more than 100 on-site and another 50 on-line participants from the whole World. The list of speakers was mainly filled with internationally recognized experts from University of Geneva, Lund University, Free University of Berlin, University of Edinburg, University of the West of England, and Toulouse University, who became close collaborators of the STARSS project and recognized Czech scientists or our Faculty and STARSS members. The lecture topics included current trends in multi-dimensional chromatography, supercritical fluid chromatography, column chemistries, and sample preparation techniques, as well as separations in the analysis of biopharmaceuticals, steroids, and anti-doping control. The two workshops gave the participants practical knowledge about nanofiber-based SPE sorbents (Dr. I. Lhotská, prof. D. Šatínský), supercritical fluid-based extraction of compounds of natural origin (Dr. V. Pilařová). The other two workshops, presented by Chromservis and Waters companies, focused on the kits for sample pretreatment before LC-MS or GC-MS and Andrew, a new pipetting robot helping in analytical laboratories. Fruitful discussions, especially during coffee breaks and the conference dinner, confirmed the newly established collaboration between institutions and the importance of the separation sciences across different disciplines.
