The prestigious scientific journal Medicinal Research Reviews published the article entitled Systematic review of pharmacokinetics and potential pharmacokinetic interactions of flavonolignans from silymarin (https://doi.org/10.1002/med.21791), co-authored by Václav Tvrdý, Jana Pourová, Eduard Jirkovský, Přemysl Mladěnka (group of Cardiovascular and respiratory pharmacology and toxicology) and Vladimír Křen, Kateřina Valentová (scientists from the Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences).
The journal Medicinal Research Reviews has a very high impact factor (IF2019 is 9.3) and belongs to the first decile of journals in the field of Pharmacology and Pharmacy, and Medicinal Chemistry.
In the published article, the authors summarized and critically evaluated the individual phases of the pharmacokinetics of flavonolignans derived from milk thistle (Silybum marianum). A substantial part of the review focuses also on the evaluation of the clinical significance of the interactions, especially with respect to the administered doses, which are usually lower in humans compared to the animal experiments.
