Between 26 and 28 July 2021, the tenth meeting of medicinal chemistry PhD students was held at the "Paul Ehrlich MedChem Euro-PhD Network", which took place under the auspices of the Italian Università Magna Grӕcia di Catanzaro. It was attended by 58 European members and two affiliated organisations, i.e. a total of 60 universities from 22 countries. The event (originally planned for 2020) was held in an online format for obvious reasons. We heard 21 lectures, 7 quick five-minute presentations, and 67 poster messages (see the programme) on the development of anti-cancer and anti-infective drugs and the development of potential drugs for cardio-vascular, metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases.
Our faculty was successfully represented by MSc. Ghada Bouz, Ph.D., a graduate from the doctoral degree programme in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Prof. Doležal’s group. She presented a lecture entitled "Derivatives of Pyrazinecarboxylic Acid as Potential Antimycobacterial Active Drugs".
During her doctoral studies, Ghada Bouz met all the requirements necessary to receive the prestigious Euro-PhD degree in medicinal chemistry. To be awarded this degree, students must actively participate (lecture) in regular symposia organised by the network, take part in a research internship at one of the centres participating in the network, and defend a PhD thesis in the presence of a foreign member of the Paul Ehrlich MedChem Euro-PhD Network. MSc. Ghada Bouz, Ph.D., became the first person to be awarded this degree not only at our faculty, but in the entire Czech Republic. Congratulations!
