Alternative materials for separation of pharmaceutically relevant compounds

Silica-gel is the most popular material for preparation of HPLC columns. Nevertheless, due to the known drawbacks (limited pH and thermal stability, secondary interaction with basic compounds) have led to employment of other materials as an alternative chromatographic bad (e.g.: metal oxides - alumina, zirconia, titania; polymers, etc.). The primarily aim is to eliminate the limitations of silica-gel. Moreover, the new types of stationary phases should provide a different selectivity in comparison with existing stationary phases. This phenomenon is desired especially in the field of pharmaceutical analysis, when separation of similar compounds is an issue. The aim of dissertation will be focused on the employment of alternative materials in separation (HPLC, CEC or GC) of pharmaceutically relevant compounds.
