8. Diploma thesis (Degree Paper)

  1. The defence of the degree paper, by means of which an undergraduate shows special knowledge and skills gained in some of the subjects taught at the Faculty, ranks among the state examinations.
The topics of the degree papers, usually connected with the programme of the research work, are announced by the Heads of the Departments in the 7th semester by the end of January. Till the end of March at the latest the undergraduates enroll in the chosen Department and its Head appoints supervisors of the papers from the rank of professors, associate professors, assistant professors, research workers, possibly even specialists from practice. The undergraduates themselves may propose the topics of the degree paper and they may ask for the supervisor they have chosen.
  2. The Dean of the Faculty determines the principles of the elaboration of the diploma thesis and the date by which the undergraduates are obliged to hand it in. To the undergraduate who does not hand in the degree paper in time the compensatory date will be determined. If the undergraduate does not observe even this one, the Dean will decide whether the undergraduate will repeat the 5th year of studies.
  3. The Head of the Department designates a referee of the paper from the rank of professors, associate professors, research workers, possibly even specialists from practice and assigns the date of the defence according to the guidelines of the Dean. The supervisor of the thesis elaborates an evaluation of the thesis of the graduate and submits it to the Head of the Department. The referee appraises the thesis and submits his/her evaluation to the Head of the Department, too. The graduate has the right to become acquainted with the evaluation at least five days before the date of the defence .
  4. The defence of the degree paper takes place at the Department where it has been elaborated or assigned in front of the board nominated by the Dean, in the presence of the supervisor and the referee of the thesis. During the defence the graduate presents his/her comments to the evaluations of the thesis by the supervisor and the referee and answers the questions of the board referring to the thesis.
